I believe that half-duplexes are the best way to live if you have kids or don’t want kids. They are a great compromise between the two families – or, if you don’t want to have kids, it’s a great way to live.
A half-duplex is a house that has two living rooms and a kitchen, with the bathroom and bedroom/bathroom being on either side. The only time they are considered detached is if you want to rent out the entire house. The only other time you will need to add a second bathroom is if you want to rent out the basement, or if you want to convert the whole house to a loft.
A half duplex is a great deal for a young couple who needs roommates and an extra room. That being said, half duplexes are somewhat of a compromise between a single-family home and a duplex. You can rent out the whole house for a really good price, but you need to be willing to live with roommates – or take your time and find roommates. This is something that couples, particularly in the city, should at least consider.
It is a matter of preference. Most of us have a bit of a taste for a rental (that’s why we should always have a couple of dozen flats and a loft in the basement) but there are always a couple of bedrooms, which you can rent out for a modest amount of money. Or you can rent a couple of flats for a decent amount of money and still have some roommates.
The problem is, sometimes it’s not possible to live with roommates. And sometimes it’s not possible to live with the same person for a year, or for a very long time. And sometimes it’s not possible to have a roommate who’s a family member. Sometimes it’s just not going to work.
But there are ways to make it work. Living on the same floor, you may have to share a bathroom. The bathroom is a large shared space, not just for you but also for your neighbors. When you have roommates, you need to be considerate enough to share the bathroom.
