One of the most common questions I get from homeowners is, “Can you get me someone to do my plumbing job in just a few hours?” It’s funny; plumbing is one of those things that is so simple, but so hard to do. I have been able to help a lot of people get their plumbing done. However, I have also had homeowners come into our offices and tell me they don’t know how to do their own plumbing.
When I was in Los Angeles, one of my home-owners had painted his home in a pattern he thought he’d painted in the local neighborhood, “Bitch, I don’t have it right here!”. While I was amazed at the work he did, I was unable to get the job done by myself. So I got him a job that included a kitchen and bathroom and a bathroom sink. Then we put in another job, and another one.
It is not uncommon for homeowners to use craigslist for their house painting. Some people are just lazy, and do not want to do much of it themselves. But do not be fooled. These DIYers are just the type of person who will walk into a home and think they can do it all by themselves, and then complain to you when they have a problem. In fact, you should be able to solve most of your plumbing problems with a search on craigslist.

I remember the first time I looked at craigslist (and that was almost half an hour ago) and was amazed to see so many of these people who were not only on craigslist, but who were in fact doing their own job. Then one of the other posters wrote down, “It’s not that hard to paint a home without a canvas. You just have to paint it and it will stand out in the window.” I got a real kick out of that.
