Most people are familiar with the concept of self awareness. In our own work, our own self-awareness is an active process that we work with at every level, from our cognitive processes to our emotions to our thoughts. Our self-awareness is a bit like the mind that we are, or rather the mind that we are not, and we think very hard about what we are thinking about before we even think about what we think about.
The most obvious example of self-awareness is the awareness of the thoughts that you’re making. You can be working hard at something and you’re not thinking clearly about it, or worse, you can be having a conversation with a friend when you are about to get very drunk or very angry and you are not aware that you are making those choices.
The main point of self-awareness is to know that youre not thinking about it and therefore youre probably going to be thinking a lot more about it. When we’re talking to friends about our thoughts, we’re not actually making them about what we’re thinking about. We are trying to find the right balance of thinking clearly and deliberately.
Self-awareness is one of those things that is easy to dismiss as “just a phase” or “something you learn as you grow up,” but once you realize you’re not a robot you can have a much more profound effect on the way you think. In other words, the first step in becoming a better human being is to become aware of the fact that you’re not someone who just comes from one reality and is stuck in another.

We can become whatever we want to be, but it’s important to understand the real impact of your choices. The fact is we are all controlled by our thoughts, and what we think about others affects how they act.
